If I am elected my door and my ears will always be open to my fellow citizens and I will work tirelessly to ensure that the Brunswick County Clerk of Court's Office continues to serve the needs of the people. I do not have any personal agenda that I seek to fulfill as agendas cost money. Street: My only motivation for seeking this office is my desire to serve the hardworking tax paying citizens of Brunswick County. As an attorney, I will preside over clerk hearings rather than delegating that responsibility. Clerks will be cross trained and thereby improve efficiency by allowing court sessions to have larger dockets or allow multiple court sessions to run at the same time. I‘m committed to working with our judges to create more court sessions. We are still trying to work through the COVID backlog. Most of that growth is from individuals at or above the age of retirement, creating an increase in matters heard before the clerk. Madon: Brunswick County is the fastest growing county in the state. I will increase fiscal accountability, and transparency just as I did for our Administrative Office of the Courts. It will be my job to make sure those funds are spent efficiently and effectively. What issues will you focus on addressing if elected?Īdams: 1) Making Our Courts More Efficient and Our Communities Safer: Improving the overall efficiency of our courts is key to ensuring justice is served timely and criminals are taken off our streets.Ģ) Implementing E-courts System: This will move the clerk's office from paper to digital, allowing citizens greater access and making our courts more transparent.ģ) Fiscal Responsibility: Our courts are funded by our tax dollars. I have worked in many occupations including being self-employed so I can relate to people from all walks of life and in this office you need someone that can reach the citizens on a personal level. Being the clerk of court is largely an administrative role and it was for such a position as this that I obtained my master's in public administration. Street: I feel I am the right candidate for this office because of both my academic and real world experience. I have wonderful working relationships with our leaders and have the support and endorsement of Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram and District Attorney Jon David. In private practice I represented hundreds of our citizens in every matter heard before the clerk. I am the only candidate that is an attorney and the only candidate with administrative experience in our courthouse.

The clerk also manages courthouse personnel that process, index and maintain court records. Madon: Clerks of court in North Carolina are judges and preside over matters pertaining to probate filings, estate disputes, foreclosures, real estate partitions, incompetency/guardianship proceedings and adoptions. I served as deputy director of the Administrative Office of the Courts for North Carolina which oversees all courts statewide with 6,200 employees and a $511 million budget and helped lead the creation of N.C.'s statewide E-Courts initiative which is making our courts more efficient and effective. Why should voters choose you for this position?Īdams: As retiring Clerk of Court Jim MacCallum said in his endorsement, I am "the one person most supremely qualified to be our next clerk of court." I am the only person running with management and leadership experience and a 20-year record of accomplishments. Occupation: Small business owner involved in construction and truckingĮducation: Bachelor's degree in geography Master's degree in public administration Anthony Street is a candidate for Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court.
